Blood play is not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced partners; there, however, ways around it if it is your kink and you don’t quite know how to use it in a scene.

What is blood play?

Blood play is a sexual practice that involves blood coming either from self-harm or drawing blood from your partner. People typically draw blood from biting or using needles, knives, or blades. The drawn blood will either be licked up or smeared across their partner’s body.

People who enjoy blood play often have a blood fetish called Hemotolagnia. Hematolagnia is the sexual arousal from blood; this fetish includes licking, biting, or drinking blood.

Blood play is about the sensation, so you can easily fake bloodplay during a scene if you don’t want to actually use real blood if, for instance, you are like me. Most of the time, if I see blood, I am fine, but every now and then, I will pass out when I see blood; this would be a massive mood killer in the middle of a scene.

So how do you fake it?

Similar to sensation play, you can tie your partner up and blindfold them; this way, they won’t see any “blood.” You can buy fake blood online or opt for ketchup or even red wine, so use it as blood. It creates the illusion of blood with the color, pouring or dripping over your partner while they are blindfolded came easily feel like blood is trickling down them. At the same time, in the scene, you can use a butter knife or credit card to mimic the sensation of cutting your partner without actually harming them.

This type of play is all about suggestive remarks and the sensation experienced during the scene.

Now, people with hematolagnia will see this as a cop-out and want to experience the real thing, which is also perfectly fine as long as both partners are consensually enthusiastic about the scene.  You can research more about the topic or attend classes for blood play, making sure you are as educated as possible on this kink before engaging in it. Safety and technique will be crucial elements you will need to understand.

I must also stress that it will be very important to only engage in blood play with partners you trust and constantly get tested for STDs and any other transmittable diseases from blood; you and your partner’s well-being should be of utmost importance when it comes to any type of kink.
