Bondage

Bondage has many different forms and practices; there is, however, so much more to it than just a pair of furry handcuffs, a silk scarf, or a tie.

Bondage, also referred to as Shibari, takes a lot of practice and a unique skill set. It usually takes at least a year to learn how to use ropes and suspension techniques. It is essential to learn everything you can from a rigging instructor or shibari teacher, do not try bondage without proper knowledge.

If you do not know what you are doing, you can cause severe nerve damage. It takes a lot of time, effort, and training to ensure nothing goes wrong during bondage or suspension.

The are many books that can broaden your knowledge and teach you different techniques, some books worth reading are listed below:

  • Complete Shibari – Douglas Kent
  • Bondage you can use – Lee Harrington
  • Bondage for Sex – Chanta Rose
  • Showing you the ropes – Two Knotty Boys
  • The little guide to getting tied up – Evie Vane
  • The seductive art of Japanese bondage – Midori
  • Tying and Flying: Bondage for self-suspension – Shay Tiziano

You will learn so much from these books, and they will help you understand the art of Shibari. There are also a couple of YouTube channels you can watch and subscribe to:

All these resources are beneficial and help you determine your goal with bondage or Shibari.

I would also recommend creating a FetLife account if you don’t already have one; many classes and workshops are available. You can find local riggers or shibari teachers that are more than willing to teach people the art of bondage.

As a future rigger, it is crucial to remember a rope bunny/ bottom is entrusting you with their body and well-being. You need to understand anatomy and pressure points to prevent any temporary or permanent damage. You need to understand skin color differences caused by bondage and warning signs to look out for during suspension or bondage.  These are crucial questions to ask before a suspension, along with any medical history.

Play safe, keep learning, and hang in there…
