Self care the single person’s aftercare

Self care is very important if you are a single person and can not rely on anyone to give you aftercare. Being a single kinkster is fucking awesome; you get to play with who you want when you want. It is a great way to experiment with all your kinks and try out different types of Doms or subs so that you can figure out what variety of roles you prefer with your kinks.

The only shitty part about being a single kinkster is that aftercare is not always the highest priority of your play partner. Even though it is continually stated that aftercare is a must regardless of the dynamic many single kinksters don’t get adequate aftercare after a scene and this will often lead to subdrop or Domdrop, so self care is essential.

If you are new to kink, it is often difficult to let your play partner know what your aftercare needs might be if you aren’t sure yourself. If this is the case, try to keep track of what you feel and want after a scene so that you can start to create your aftercare needs list for future partners but also for yourself. Self care is very important, and you need to know how to provide your aftercare without a partner.

Subdrop and Domdrop is unavoidable at times; yes, aftercare does help soften the blow, but there is always that possibility that you might experience a drop regardless. It is always best to make sure that you have aftercare items available in case you experience a drop. By practicing self care, you will intuitively have your feel-good items nearby.

If you know you have a scene coming up, don’t make any plans for the next day. This way, you will have time to look after yourself and provide self care. Some of the more popular self care routines are listed below:

If you are going to a play partner’s place for a scene, pack an energy drink or bottle of water so that you rehydrate after the scene. Take a few snacks with like a chocolate bar or sweets, which will help with your energy levels. Make sure to take comfortable clothing and always take soothing lotion if you are going to have an impact play scene.

If you are home, make sure to have your favorite foods stocked up at home and a few shows that you enjoy so that you can binge-watch them. I personally enjoy greasy food and stupid comedies after an intense scene, and I also tend to isolate myself for the day after that while I process everything. Everyone has their own self care needs, and I don’t believe that there is a wrong way.

Self care is knowing what you need and when you need it, and the best person to do this is you; nobody knows you better than yourself.
