Masochists and their love of pain

Masochists and their love of pain

Masochists were considered people who had a psychological disorder and needed some form of intervention from medical practitioners, which has changed over the years, thankfully. BDSM is somewhat more acceptable now, and dare I say it… A little more mainstream, allowing more people to explore their kinks without the fear of being institutionalized.

There is, however, always that opinion that people who enjoy sadomasochism are either abusers or abuse victims. Unfortunately, there are predators and abusers out there who prove this to be true once in a while. This is, however, very untrue in most BDSM relationships or dynamics where both partners have enthusiastically consented to include sadomasochism in their dynamic.

Masochists

So why do masochists love pain? Often masochists will just say they love the feeling or the intensity involved, and it’s just something they enjoy. It is all very accurate, but what ultimately lures them into their masochist kinks is the chemical reaction in the body they experience during a session.

The serotonin and adrenaline levels in your body will start spiking during an impact play session. These are reactive chemicals that get produced in your body when you are experiencing pain. Even though these chemicals are supposed to help you with pain or when you should run away or fight off an attacker in a fight or flight moment, they can also lead to sexual arousal.

During an impact play scene, for instance, when your Dom is flogging you. The flogging will start off slowly and light to wake up your pain receptacles in your brain so that your body can start producing those chemical reactions. When the flogging intensity increases and more pain is experienced. Your body will create copious amounts of endorphins, serotonin, melatonin, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. These chemical reactions will often push the masochist into subspace as all these feel-good chemicals turn the pain into sexual arousal.

So not only are you being a good sub to your Sadist while they beat your masochist ass, but your body is also rewarding you with feel-good endorphins that make it worth the pain you are experiencing, and the aftercare is always the cherry on top.
